Ghostly safe time

Safety tips for this fall

It’s cool & crisp with beautiful fall colors beginning to show that get you & your Clumber Spaniel excited for the changing season. This break from the hot, sticky summer gets us up for the fun outdoor activities.  Here are a few reminders to keep your Clumber Spaniel healthy during these autumn months.

  • Don’t go full steam with outdoor activities if you & your Clumber Spaniel haven’t been active outdoors.  Build up to that hike with some remedial recall training and easy walking.
  • Fall is mushroom season.  A familiar hunting activity we experienced when living in the Midwest.  There are only a few toxic mushrooms, but they are undistinguishable from the nontoxic ones, so the best way to keep your dog from ingesting poisonous mushrooms is to keep him away from areas where they are growing.  While Clumber Spaniels are designed to hunt, mushrooms don’t need to be on their list.
  • Snakes- YIKES! Grumpy snakes are preparing for hibernation in the autumn. If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time you and/or your dog can be seriously bitten.  Be aware of where snakes can hide and what kinds of venomous snakes may be in your environment.
